WE ARE BUT PLAYERS

Very short silent clip made to show the first in a series of portraits in black called 'We Are But Players". Adapting the staging principle of Edward Gordon Craig's screens the piece shows Samuel Beckett and his friend Eamonn Keane who is impersonating Cyril Cusack as Christy Mahon in an Abbey Theatre production of The Playboy of the Western World. We are in The Six Bells in the King's Road Chelsea London in October 1958. The painting is on 3 screens oil on canvas and painted only using black paint.
